What's in a name? 2nd Edition vs. 2.0 vs. something added?
Hey everyone!
It's been on my mind for a long time, and has been brought to my attention many times, that "Monolith" isn't exactly the most unique name or search term. There's also an RPG studio with the same name, which doesn't help.
So as I work on the next version of this game, I've been thinking about what to name it, and really how to brand it. How do folks feel about a subtitle? Monolith 2nd Edition vs Monolith 2.0? Or something like Monolith Redux? Monolith: This Time It's Personal?
I want to retain whatever name recognition, albeit small, the game has, while giving it a slightly more original full title for searching and referencing. Not sure if folks have any strong opinions here, but I wanted to ask the collective!

2.0 sounds cool.
A subtitle sounds good to me. Changing the title a bit wouldn't be a problem either. Something like “Monolithic Age” or “Monolithic Space”, for example.
I agree with the 2e support, as it feels very ttrpg. Knave and Cairn did it. Redux or remaster feel more videogamey to me. I also like how Liminal horror has the investigators/legacy edition.
monolith modified?
monolith corrupted?
monolith basic/ monolith advanced?
Good thoughts. Yeah I'm also a fan of how LH handled it...something to consider.
A second version should clearly be titled “Duolith.”
XD
I like 2nd Edition and 2.0 equally, I think, but I believe they bring different expectations to the table.
With a 2nd Edition, people are going to assume a degree of incompatibility, while 2.0 feels more like it’d be an upgrade to the existing book (similar to Redux or Remastered or whatever).
Either way, I’m excited about more Monolith!
Good points! The core rules will be the same, but obviously (if anyone has been following the rules devlog) other subsystems have been tweaks or reworked to various degrees.
Something I'll ponder...
I also have the impression that talking about editions probably communicates a major change, but I'm not sure it necessarily implies incompatibility. Cairn 2e added mechanics, procedures, backgrounds, while keeping the core rules intact; although it could have been an expanded edition, I think 2nd Edition works well in that case as well.
The Schist edition
I honestly love to see a 2e - it tells me the designer's learned some lessons!
I definitely have!
